On March 29th, which happened to be 48 hours
after we had brought our little Kru home from the hospital
we went back to the hospital lab to have Kru tested for Jaundice.
The technician informed me it would take two hours
to get the results back and they would call my doctor
in which he would then call me.
Around 7:30 in the evening, about 5 hours later
I get a call from some random nurse
who wasn't even in my doctors office.
She informed me that Kru's test came back CRITICALLY
high at a 19.3- 19.1 unconjugated.
She informed me that we needed to head to the E.R. immediately
where the hospital might just keep him overnight.
Needless to say, I was freaking out...
none of my children have been jaundice
and I really didn't know what to do or what to expect,
what it all entailed or what could happen.
So Nate and I gathered baby Kru's belongings and headed to the E.R.
still a little confused and in shock.
At the hospital, I finally got a hold of the Dr. on call in my Doctor's office.
He informed me that I needed to hold off registering at the hospital.
He truly put my mind at ease answering a lot of my questions.
He made a few phone calls to get to the bottom of a lot of confusion
and finally called me back.
He said to go home and a home care worker would show up
with lights for baby Kru.
Around 10:45 p.m., a worker showed up at our home.
He gave us instructions on what to do and then set up the bed and bili lights.
I felt so bad that Kru was jaundice and it was especially
hard having to watch him sleep in the lights and
squirm and cry because he was
cold and uncomfortable.
He did a pretty good job though except for the snake light
that laid on his stomach, he absolutely hated it.
After 2 days and 3 nights of being on the lights....
his numbers dropped to 12 and we were able to take him off.
The Doctor was surprised how fast the numbers dropped
and didn't expect them to drop as low as
they did.
We are so happy and grateful though that Kru's numbers
are at a healthy level and that his color is good.
We are especially grateful that he no longer
has to sleep in the lights and now we
can hold him and cuddle him while he
sleeps!!

Glad to hear his levels dropped really quickly! He is such a doll! Congrats (a little late)!! Hope we get to see you guys in June :)
oh- so glad they dropped quickly. Both my boys had Jaundice, weird that the girls didn't. But, that is no fun not being able to snuggle them and make them stay under the lights. So glad he is good now! He's a cutie!
